LATHAM TO HOST IOWA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBER AS GUEST FOR TONIGHT’S STATE OF THE UNION
Washington,
Feb 12 -
Iowa Congressman Tom Latham will host a member of Iowa’s Army National Guard for tonight’s State of the Union address in the United States Capitol.
Captain Philip A. Turner, Commander of Headquarters of the Brigade Special Troops Battalion of the Iowa Army National Guard in Johnston, will be the Congressman’s special guest. Captain Turner will observe the annual speech from the gallery in the chamber of the House of Representatives.
“I am honored to host a member of our Armed Forces at tonight’s speech,” noted Latham. “It is because of the dedication and sacrifice of Captain Turner, his colleagues and those who came before him that we live in a free country where our leaders are obligated to report and respond to the people — a country where tonight’s report is constitutionally required.”
Additionally, following the tradition of recent years, Congressman Latham has asked Congressman Ed Pastor (D-AZ) to sit with him at tonight’s speech. Congressman Pastor is the ranking Democratic member of the Transportation-HUD Appropriations subcommittee that Latham chairs.
