IOWA VOICES & OPINIONS DIRECT FIRST-EVER ONLINE TOWN MEETING BY LATHAM
2012 PRIORITY ISSUES SURVEY AVAILABLE ON LATHAM'S WEBSITE
AMES, Iowa,
Jan 19, 2012 -
Iowa Congressman Tom Latham launched an online town hall meeting on his official web site this week, asking Iowans to offer their thoughts and opinions on some of the most important issues facing our nation.
Congressman Latham is asking any interested Iowans to visit the website, Latham.House.Gov/OnineTownMeeting, and fill out the survey. The survey asks Iowans about their thoughts on health care, immigration, agriculture, defense, the national debt and the state of our economy.
“I firmly believe that many of Washington’s problems stem from one central cause: too many government leaders in Congress and in the White House have stopped listening to the very people they represent,” Congressman Latham said. “But I’ve always made it my top priority to listen to Iowans so I can take their views and voices to Congress. We live in a representative democracy that can function only when the government responds to the people. Iowans have a history of sitting down with our neighbors and peacefully discussing what is happening in our world. I have always said that Washington could learn a great deal by listening to the people of Iowa.”
The online town hall is yet another avenue of communication available for Iowans to get in touch with Congressman Latham. He’s held more than 520 town hall meetings and countless telephone town halls during his service to Iowans.
“Too many government leaders have stopped listening to the American people, but I’m working every day to change that,” Congressman Latham said. “I urge any Iowan who is interested to contact me with their concerns about the future of our country. My door is always open to Iowans with ideas about how we can strengthen our communities, our state and our nation.”
